Grant Description
Grants to Virginia nonprofit organizations, government units, and educational instutions for professional development activities in eligible communities. Funding is intended to improve the leadership and development of arts and cultural organizations. Eligible applicant organizations are those that operate in and serve the residents of Virginia Beach.

Grants support arts and humanities leaders' (professional administrators and board members) acquisition of skills and practical tools that hone their ability to lead, develop, and sustain the overall health and vitality of arts and humanities organizations.

The following are examples of activities eligible for funding. Additional activities may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    • In-Office Training/Guest Facilitators
    • Board Development/Education
    • Skill Courses
  • Services, Subscriptions, Training, or Consulting/Freelance

    • Succession Planning
    • Fundraising
    • Intern stipends
    • Freelance projects

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Qualified applicants must:
• Have a stated purpose in their mission statement serving the arts and humanities through the provision of services and programming.
• Be non-Profit organizations exempt from federal income tax under Section 501 which includes the 501(c)3 designation of the Internal Revenue Code, or units of government, educational institutions, or local chapters of tax-exempt national organizations.
• Comply with all current and applicable laws and state and federal nondiscrimination acts (including, but not limited to, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Immigration and Control Act of 1986).
Pre-Application Information
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis ending March 19, 2027.

Notification of Award: After next Arts & Humanities Business Meeting

Organizations are responsible for submitting applications 12 business days prior to the Executive Committee meeting at which the organizations would like the application reviewed.​

An organization representative is required to attend a business meeting where the application is being reviewed to answer any questions posed by the Commissioners. If no representative is available, questions will be sent via email and the applicant organization will have 2 business days to
reply. If no reply is received, the application may be denied.

Estimated Size of Grant
Up to a total of $1,250 per organization per fiscal year.
